"Dodecahedron"
Atriumet danner et ute-inne rom hvor arkitektur møter natur. I følge landskapsarkitektens planer for atriet er uterommet formet som en hage hvor natur-elementene er arrangert etter linjer i arkitekturen. Den rene geometrien man finner i arkitekturen er en motsetning til naturens organiske former. Mitt bidrag til et kunstprosjekt for atriet består av en paviljong / Folly-skulptur som tar opp i seg dette møte mellom arkitektur og natur og skaper et rom for kontemplasjon og ettertanke.
Paviljongskulpturen er konstruert med utgangspunkt i en åpen Dodecahedron – en tredimensjonal femkant.
Skulpturen har perforerte vegger som gjengir motsetningen mellom arkitektur og natur samtidig som den referer til naturens tallsystemer og livet som oppstår i samsvar med disse. Noen av disse perforeringene er basert på vitenskapelige notater av planter som har en fem-delt inndeling i sin oppbygning. De øvre perforeringene har motiver av ulike organismer – dyr insekter som beveger seg i mønsteret som oppstår i sammensetningen av dodecahedronen.
I toppen av paviljongen er det innstallert lys i form av spotter som vil kaste mønster av skygger på gulvet rundt paviljongen. Mye av tiden som elevene er på skolen i vinterhalvåret vil belysningen kunne ha stor betydning for inntrykket av skulpturen sett innenfra bygget. Materialet i skulpturen vil reflektere lyset og omgivelsene , den vil skifte farge og fremtoning etter som lyset endrer seg gjennom døgnet.
Skulpturen er produsert med vannskjærte aluminiumsplater, 6mm og 4mm tykkelse.
Inne i skulpturen vil det monteres en u formet sitte benk laget av tre; eik og teak.
Skulpturen balanserer på fem kraftige stålfjærer. Dette skaper en bevegelse i skulpturen og når man sitter inne i skulpturen vil man ikke nå ned til bakken med bena og man vil kjenne på en flytende bevegelse. I toppen er det montert en 4mm plate med et sirkelrundt hull i midten, denne vil beskytte benken fra regn og snø inne i skulpturen og være et feste for belysning.
Skulpturen er boltet sammen av mer enn 300 bolter og braketter, og alle boltene er nestet.
The atrium forms an outdoor-indoor space where architecture meets nature. According to the landscape architect's plans for the atrium, the outdoor space is shaped like a garden where the natural elements are arranged according to the lines of the architecture. The pure geometry found in architecture is a contrast to nature's organic forms. My contribution to an art project for the atrium consists of a pavilion / Folly sculpture that takes up this encounter between architecture and nature and creates a space for contemplation and reflection.
The pavilion sculpture is constructed based on an open Dodecahedron – a three-dimensional pentagon. The sculpture has perforated walls that reproduce the contradiction between architecture and nature while also referring to nature's number systems and the life that arises in accordance with them. Some of these perforations are based on scientific notes of plants that have a five-part division in their structure. The upper perforations have motifs of various organisms - animals insects that move in the pattern that occurs in the composition of the dodecahedron.
At the top of the pavilion, lights have been installed in the form of spots that will cast a pattern of shadows on the floor around the pavilion. Much of the time that the pupils are at school during the winter term, the lighting can have a major impact on the impression of the sculpture seen from inside the building. The material in the sculpture will reflect the light and the surroundings, it will change color and appearance as the light changes throughout the day.
The sculpture is produced with water-cut aluminum plates, 6mm and 4mm thickness. A u-shaped bench made of wood will be mounted inside the sculpture; oak and teak. The sculpture balances on five powerful steel springs. This creates a movement in the sculpture and when you sit inside the sculpture you will not reach down to the ground with your legs and you will feel a fluid movement. At the top, a 4mm plate with a circular hole in the middle is mounted, this will protect the bench from rain and snow inside the sculpture and be a fixture for lighting.
The sculpture is bolted together by more than 300 bolts and brackets, and all the bolts are nested.
